Riding
in the Central Colorado Rockies on miles of groomed trails is about as
good as snowmobiling gets. Some trails take you to the top of the spectacular
Continental Divide; others travel to historic ghost towns, back country
bowls, and scenic mountain lakes. Local vendors rent machines, related
equipment and clothing for those that don't have their own. For those
that have never tried the sport before, several guides in the area offer
tours, including some overnight trips. Snowmobiling in the mountains of
Colorado is different than in the Midwest, Colorado gets drier and powdery
snow making it easier to get stuck. Don't venture off the maintained trails
or you could be in trouble. Remember its wise for all backcountry travelers
to check local weather and avalanche conditions before entering the backcountry
of Colorado.
