Alamosa, Colorado

Gateway to the Great Sand Dunes National Park

Alamosa is located at the junction of U.S. Hwy 160, U.S. Hwy 285 and State Hwy 17 in the heart of the San Luis Valley; the highest valley in Colorado. The town's elevation is 7,531 feet.

The nearest commercial airports are Alamosa, Denver International, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo. Commercial airlines serve Alamosa from Denver International with several flights daily.

Alamosa was founded in 1878 by settlers form Fort Garland looking to settle a new town on the banks of the Rio Grande River which leads southeast through the center of town on its way to New Mexico. 

The town is the gateway to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and is situated near the 1,851,792-acre Rio Grande National Forest. Also close by is the San Luis Lakes State Park.

Alamosa Chamber of Commerce: Serves the town of Alamosa and surrounding area. They are an excellent source for information regarding the community and will provide assistance in planning your visit to the area.
